Family Business

collarBack story:

Straight out of college, I started helping my uncle promote a product he patented. We were up against a 3% success rate. I visited dozens of local stores, sent hundreds of letters, set up a website, etc. My uncle was going a million miles an hour with ideas. For me it turned into a drawn out summer gig. I couldn’t bear the thought of quitting, but I had to get on with my life. I held off for months, not even canceling the automatic payments from my credit card for a dead website. Finally, a dream brought closure.

Dream:

My uncle and I got tangled up in each other’s jackets. He’s trying to run as I’m trying to slowly carry a giant cake.

Meaning:

My uncle and I were in different stages of life. This “partnership” was hindering each of us from our current assignment. It was perfectly alright to go our separate ways.
